The Coast/Reverb
Halifax
Review by Iain K. MacLeod
According to the Canadian Music Encyclopedia, Matt got his start in 1969 with
the band Moon, Minglewood And The Universal Power.
He later launched his own attack as The Minglewood Band and stuck it to the
labels by releasing this indie gem in the mid 70's, before officially signing
to RCA. This debut marks the beginning of a new attitude not usually
associated with the Maritimes - and it all took place at a time when the
Canadian music industry could probably all fit into a phone booth in front of
the Eaton Center.
With songs like "Cadillac" and "Door to Door Salesman" along side "East Coast
Blues" and " Funk City" this will surely blow your mom's Anne Murray - friendly
speakers to bits. One listen to "Caledonia" and you will know there's no
turning back now.
Ask your parents about this one or dig it out of the milk crate yourself.
Something tells me this is the only album in our list that was probably issued
on 8-Track.
