After more than thirty-five years rockin' the blues in the music business,
northside native Roy Batherson, better known as Glace Bay dwelling Matt
Minglewood, is the centre of attention. This Satuday afternoon, Minglewood will
be honored by the Universitey College of Cape Breton (UCCB) with an Honorary
Degree (Doctor fo Letters, D.Litt)"....for the tremendous contribution he has
made through his music and through his support of the developement and growth
of music industry in Atlantic Canada."
Matt Minglewood started out playing in bars and legions in the sixties with the
Rocking Saints and in 1969 he hooked up with Sam Moon to form Matt Minglewood,
Sam Moon and the Universal Power. By 1975, they spit ways and The Minglewood
Band released what became known as 'The Red Album'. Since then, Matt has
released 10 albums, criss-crossed the country more than a few times, been
recpient of a variety fo awards and nominations, including a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the East Coast Music Assoc. and last year celebrated his
35 anniversary in the music business with , what turned out to be, a two-day
festival in his honour. This year that one-off anniversary/tribute is being
staged again as Minglefest.
